Professor Jonathan was born in Orange CA. He was raised in Guatemala for a few years and then landed back in the States. Raised by a single mother along with 3 other siblings. Professor Jon has persevered through different hardships such as poverty to even living in a car at one point. There was one thing that stood out to him in his early teens which ignited a passion in his heart. WRESTLING! His high-school career started in NJ and finished in CA earning a few CIF placings and qualifying for masters. Jonathan continued his training at Santa Ana College under Coach Silva until he departed for the Marine Corps for the next 8 years.

Jonathan Marroquin

Professor Jon married his lovely wife Joscelin in 2009, and had their son Caleb in 2010. 2010 was the year in which Professor Jon’s Jiu-Jitsu career started. It began at Brazilian top team in Tustin Ca. Due to military duty, he had to put that on pause. Fast forward to 2016, his career continued at Rounders MMA under Professor Nick Varkatzas. Professor Jon actively competed in a multitude of local tournaments all over Southern California winning many championships. At Blue belt Jonathan took over and eventually established a well-developed children’s program in the Gi, Nogi, and wrestling. In May 2019 Jonathan, his wife and their Caleb suffered a severe car accident which put his competition career on hold.

Professor Jon decided to shift his focus on establishing a competition team. TEAM VALIANTS Started with only a handful of kids, to now over 30 active competitors. The family has grown! The Valiants have improved tremendously in the last few years. They went from winning individual championships to now winning team champions; All while primarily focusing on building a good character more than just athletes. Professor Jon uses Jiu-Jitsu as a tool to educate the kids in life lessons and the gospel of Jesus Christ. Jonathan’s goal is to glorify God with the skills and talents He has been blessed with.
